Dr. Bettie B. Borton is a licensed audiologist in Alabama, and was the first audiologist in Montgomery to hold certification by the American Board of Audiology, and is the only audiologist with such certification in private practice in this area. Dr. Borton holds a BS degree with CED Certification in Education of the Deaf from the University of Texas, a Masters degree in audiology from the Louisiana State University Medical Center, and a Doctor of Audiology degree from the the University of Florida. She was a clinical audiologist in the Department of Surgery at UAB between 1990 and 1995, and provided patient care services in The Kirklin Clinic.
She has served as a Visiting Professor, teaching associate and Supervising Clinical Audiologist at Auburn University, as well as a Supervising Clinical Audiologist at Auburn Montgomery. Dr. Borton was a charter member of the Alabama Academy of Audiology (ALAA), and served as President of this organization. She has also served on the Board of Governors for the American Board of Audiology (ABA), and is the former National Chair of the ABA. Dr. Borton is the currently the CEO and Director of Doctors Hearing Clinic, a full service private practice in Audiology. In April of 2010 Dr. Borton was elected to the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Audiology, and will serve a three year term in that capacity. She is the first (and to date, only) audiologist from Alabama to have been elected to the Academy Board.
Dr. Shandi L. Dabbs is a licensed audiologist in Alabama and Georgia and is currently the only audiologist in Opelika to hold board certification by the American Board of Audiology (ABA). Dr. Dabbs obtained a Bachelor of Science degree, with honors, in Communications Disorders and a Doctor of Audiology degree from Auburn University. She completed her residency with a multi-site Audiology practice in the metro-Atlanta area where, in addition to providing comprehensive diagnostic audiological and hearing aid services, she was solely responsible for the cochlear implant program which included evaluations for cochlear implant candidacy, initial stimulations, and follow-up services. Dr. Dabbs is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the Alabama Academy of Audiology (ALAA), serving as convention liaison for this professional organization since 2006. She also serves as a member of the ABA University Task Force created by Dr. James Hall, president of the ABA. Dr. Dabbs is a staff Audiologist for Doctors Hearing Clinic in Montgomery and managing Audiologist for Doctors Hearing Clinic in Opelika, AL.
Dr. Thomas E. Borton has recently joined the staff of Doctors Hearing Clinic as Director of Research and Special Projects. Dr. Borton received his Ph.D. degree in Speech and Hearing Science from the University of Illinois. He has a distinguished record in Audiology, having previously taught undergraduate and graduate course work at Boston University, chaired the Dept of Audiology at the University of South Carolina, and served as Chief Audiologist at Auburn University. In 1980, he was appointed Associate Professor of Biocommunication at the University of Alabama in Birmingham (UAB). He was appointed as Director of the Children's Hospital Speech and Hearing Clinic in 1981, and helped to develop what is now the Charity League Hearing and Speech Center at The Children's Hospital in Birmingham.
From 1986 to 2000, Dr. Borton was Associate Professor of Audiology and Director of the Section of Audiology in the Department of Surgery, Division of Otolaryngology/Head & Neck Surgery at UAB, and in 1988, helped to initiate, and was co-director of, the cochlear implant program at UAB. Until his retirement in May of 2010, he was Professor of Audiology at Auburn Montgomery, and Director of the AUM Speech and Hearing Clinic from 2000 to 2008, where he taught students from both Auburn University campuses. He is licensed to practice audiology in Alabama, a Fellow of the American Academy of Audiology, Board Certified in Audiology by the American Board of Audiology, past President of the Alabama Academy of Audiology, and received the Most Oustanding Audiologist award from the Alabama Academy of Audiology. Dr. Borton brings a wealth of experience and special expertise to Doctors Hearing Clinic.
Sara Burton is the administrative assistant for the Opelika location of Doctors Hearing Clinic.S
ara has recently completed the necessary Audigy Certification coursework to insure that all patients receive the highest level of care from the moment they contact Doctors Hearing Clinic. Her primary duties are communicating with patients, scheduling, maintaining clinic operations, and assisting in providing an exceptional experience for all patients. Prior to her employment with DHC, Sara has worked in various customer relations positions.
Sara is originally from London, England and in her free time she enjoys spending time with her daughter, Jasmine.
Ruthellen has been employed as the office manager at Doctors Hearing Clinic - Montgomery since 2007. Her job duties include customer service, billing, invoices and general office tasks. She is currently a senior at Troy University Montgomery, working on a Bachelor's degree in English with a minor in History.
A native of Montgomery, Ruthellen enjoys being with her dog Maggie and her cat Jazz. She also enjoys running, reading, vacationing on Lake Martin and spending time with her friends and family.
Carolyn, a retired teacher, has been employed as an Administrative Assistant at Doctors Hearing Clinic - Montgomery since 2009. She has lived in Montgomery since 1991. She is married and has a daughter who is in college, as well as 6 cats!
Carolyn’s office responsibilities include scheduling, phone and reception duties, accounts receivable and accounts payable, correspondence, assisting patients with paperwork, and communicating with providers and vendors.
Carolyn has a Master’s Degree in Education from Auburn University at Montgomery.
